ROTARY SHAFT SEALS

Crossflon high performance compounded PTFE materials are available as the sealing elements in the exclusive range of Rotary Shaft Seals. Our custom manufactured seals are produced to meet the exaacting requirements of our customers needs.

CHARACTERISTICS

Crossley radial shaft seals with outer metal case and Crossflon PTFE sealing lip.

MATERIAL

  • Sealing Lips: Crossflon PTFE Compound, accurately centred and preformed.
  • Gasket: Nitrile Rubber, Viton, EPDM, Silicone Compound.
  • Metal Casing: 316/303 Stainless Steel, Aluminiun, Steel

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

Can be used in a wide range of applications, particularly in general mechanical engineering, automotive, aerospace and in the chemical industry. They are particularly suitable for dry running and poor lubrication, high chemical resistance and where stick-slip is a problem.

OPERATING CONDITIONS

  • Media: Mineral oil, synthetic oils, greases, water, acids, alkalis, solvents and gases.
  • Temperature: -130ºC to +200ºC.*
  • Surface speed: up to 15M/sec*
  • Working pressure: up to 10 bar.*

* Maximum permissible values, depending on other operating conditions

HOUSING AND SHAFT MACHINING

  • Tolerance ISO h11
  • Concentricity IT 8
  • Surface finish Ra = 0.2-0.8µm
  • Surface finish Rz = 1-4µm
  • Surface finish Rmax = 6 µm
  • Hardness 45-50 HRC
  • Finish, non-orientated preferably by plunge grinding

Housing

  • Tolerance ISO h8
  • Surface finish Rmax ≤ 16µm

Fitting
Careful fitting is a prerequisite for proper functioning of the seal. It is important that the sealing lip is not damaged, particularly when fitting the front face in the assembly direction. A fitting sleeve with a 10-15º lead taper is recommended.

STANDARD PLAIN LIP

Standard Plain Lip
A plain PTFE lip design is suitable for applications that require dust exclusion, sealing grease or other viscous fluids and powders. It is also suitable as an environmental seal to exclude surface spray and weather conditions.

  • Bi-directional
  • Dry running
  • Dust & Water
  • Grease & Viscous Fluids
  • Environmental ( road spray etc.)

HYDRODYNAMIC SEALS

Hydrodynamic Type

Hydrodynamic Seals Intro  A uni-directional, high performance rotary shaft seal, suited to high speed applications. Single or multi-threaded spirals act as a pump transferring any liquids away from the sealing lip back into the fluid chamber. The spiral pumping action ensures rapid fluid and heat transfer away from the lip contact area.

  • Single rotational direction (clockwise or anti-clockwise)
  • High and low temperature
  • High surface speeds
  • Max pressure 1 bar
  • Counteracts shaft whip, vibration and eccentricity
  • Only used with lubricants
  • Returns escaping fluid back by pumping action

PTFE SEAL

All PTFE TypePTFE Intro  The all PTFE seal is fully machined, with no metal parts. This seal is best suited for applications where space is at a premium, in highly corrosive environments and where high temperatures are used. The all PTFE seal is also, because of Its FDA compliance, suitable for food and pharmaceutical contact.

  • Available as standard or hydrodynamic type
  • High Temperature
  • Corrosive environments
  • FDA compliant
  • No metal parts
