Within the Crossley Crossflon range of materials, Crossflon FG offers some of the most versatile properties. Developed specifically to overcome the acute problems facing the food and pharmaceutical processing industries, Crossflon FG meets the stringent requirements of product contact bearings. Crossflon FG at last gives the design engineer the following features in one non-lubricated bearing:
FEATURES
Load
Crossflon FG bearings have an upper load limit of 7MPa at constant temperature. It should be noted that material deformation is a function of wall thickness, temperature and load. Our technical sales team can assist in establishing the best design configuration to meet operating performance requirements.
Speed
Crossflon FG bearings are rated for speeds up to 2m/s operating dry at low loads.
Mating Surface
Crossflon FG is compatible with mild steel (EN43a) 304 and 316 Stainless Steel. A mating surface finish between 8 - 16µm is recommended to achieve optimum life of the bearings
Friction & Wear
Friction decreases rapidly as load increases. Stick-slip is virtually eliminated with Crossflon FG bearings, making them ideal for stop/start or oscillating applications. Crossflon FG offers outstanding continuous non-lubricated performance at operating PV values up to and exceeding 0.70. Fig 2. shows the wear rates as a function of time at various PV values.
Temperature
Crossflon FG has been designed to operate from -250ºC to + 150ºC.
Bearing Failure
Elavated temperatures, heavy loads and impact under loading will not cause Crossflon FG bearings to shatter, the bearing will merely deform. This eliminates catastrophic failure, which can cause damage to other components.
Corrosion Resistance
Crossflon FG is unaffected by all common acids, gases and solvents.
Thermal Expansion
Crossflon FG, like most polymer materials, has a higher coefficient of expansion than most metals. Fig. 1 gives the thermal expansion data. For applications where bearings are subject to extreme temperature fluctuations, alternative design configurations to standard sleeve bearings should be considered.
